About The Joy
The Joy started with a simple idea. A person doesn't stop being themselves because they need help.
Later life still holds mornings worth getting up for. A favorite chair by the window. A joke told the same way for forty years. A good home protects those things and builds the day around them.
The Joy has 24 suites. We chose that number, and we guard it. Small is the design. It's what lets Mellissa Daniel and her team learn your mother in a week instead of a season: how she takes her coffee and when she gets tired.
What a day here feels like
A day at The Joy is quiet the way a home is quiet. Coffee in the morning. The smell of lunch from a real kitchen. Someone sitting with your father while he tells a story you've heard before and they haven't.
Some afternoons there's music or an art project. Once a month, pet therapy comes to visit.
Because the same people are here every day, they notice the small things, like a harder night or a word that wouldn't come. In a bigger building those signs can get missed. Here they get caught, and Mellissa hears about them that day.
How we opened
The Joy opened its doors with a ribbon cutting here in Loganville. People from across Walton County helped put the day together and brought out the press. The Loganville Police Department handled traffic, and it's a good thing they did. Our parking lot filled up, and cars spilled over into our neighbors' lots.
Our friends and family pitched in behind the scenes. Jennifer and Jessica made the tacos everyone had been looking forward to.
The residents shared their home with a crowd that day, and they did it graciously. We haven't forgotten that. Thank you, Loganville.
The person who sets the tone
Mellissa Daniel leads The Joy as Executive Director. She's usually the first person a family meets, and often the one they call at night with a question. She sets the standard everyone here follows: treat each resident like a parent, because to someone, they are.
The Joy is licensed by the State of Georgia as a personal care home. That license shapes what we do: help with the daily tasks of living, medications, meals and steady human company, in a home small enough to stay personal. We've been in compliance at every state inspection.
